Business Development Director, Freight Forwarding - Europe

As Lineage builds its freight-forwarding capabilities on a global level; and with our already significant footprint in North America - we have exciting revenue opportunities helping our global customers bring container shipments into Europe.

Whilst the scale of this opportunity is vast; we have many opportunities also at a European level; with already significant forwarding capabilities and warm customer relationships in the Netherlands, UK, Germany, and Poland.

We are now looking to add a Business Development Director to support top line growth in our European freight forwarding business.

What you will be doing

You will be responsible for selling; and organising your regional team to sell a variety of freight forwarding solutions, such as container shipments, reefers, customs brokerage and drayage.

To be successful in this role, it’s essential that you have a global vision and understanding of our freight forwarding presence and opportunities for Lineage in Europe; and ensure that we are able to design and deliver a credible customer focused and commercial sound strategy.

We have many warm customer relationships, and we can help you and your team get a ‘foot in the door’ to access to business leaders and decision markers to help us ‘upsell’ Lineage freight forwarding solutions.

You will expect regular travel to various Lineage regional locations; but also, will meet with customers face to face; with many of your freight forwarding colleagues based in Rotterdam.

There will be a strong emphasis on the Dutch market initially, and you will be able to act in the local freight forwarding market - but you will drive the team to connect with opportunities at a global level.

Day to day tasks include:

  • Increasing company revenue by identifying and developing new business opportunities

  • Recommending ways to improve operations planning, attending meetings with clients and advisors, and notifying partners of key business developments.

  • Assessing business opportunities and risks by analyzing financial, statistical, and economic data.

  • Building solid relationships with customers, vendors, and distributors,

  • Developing in-depth knowledge of company offerings to identify profitable business opportunities.

  • Directing marketing efforts by presenting market research to marketing directors and suggesting strategies to expand market research.

  • Preparing all documentation required for requests for proposals.

  • Developing and managing strategic partnerships to grow business.

  • Presenting business or marketing opportunities to company executives and management.

  • Understanding in-country and local regulations, as well as competitive market landscape to make informed decisions on regional marketing plans to ensure revenue growth across all products, services, and facilities.

  • Negotiating contracts between appropriate parties.

  • Who we’re looking for:

    To be successful, relationships are key. You will need to gain trust and respect from peers and teams in the Netherlands and across our global network.

    You will also have:

  • Demonstrable senior level management and leadership experience in freight forwarding setting.

  • Had responsibility and have delivered sales growth in a growing company.

  • Worked in a professional sales setting (using sales force, developing proposals and contracts).

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to deal with ambiguity.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels.

  • Have lead teams of sales professionals ensuring they meet personal and commercial goals.

  • English and Dutch at professional level.
