Position Summary
The Compliance Engineer is a specialist with regards to compliance & certification (initially focused on electrolyzers). The engineer advises and arranges such that product are designed in line with local regulation and standards. In this position the individual is responsible for delivering a framework for engineering teams to comply with and hereby enable systems and accompanying documentation (where related to compliance / certification) in a timely and complete manner. To enable teams to do this the compliance engineer is also involved in the discussion with third parties, with the checks of deliverables from engineering and shall create and provide training materials to relevant departments in the organization.
The successful candidate must be self-motivated and sure-footed. The engineer is a strong comprehensive reader to be able to understand and translate general standards and statements to match with the company’s scope of work. This requires a thorough understanding of the systems as well as the regulations and standards and a character to stand for the choices made.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for the delivery of the Technical dossier associated with the Plug power products stating how the packages comply with all required legislation and codes & standards. Initially focus shall be on Electrolyzers for Europe.
Keeping the Technical dossier up to date on design changes.
Corresponding with national authorities in case of compliance issues.
Initiating corrective measures on non-compliance issues.
Providing (technical) expertise to during different project and product development phases.
Actively participates in relevant risk assessments to ensure compliance is taken into account.
Reviews documents prepared by sub-contractors or Plug Power to ensure quality and consistency.
Acting as the specialist on compliance and certification aspects.
Is able to explain the importance of compliance & safety to other disciplines and is sure-footed in discussion with internal and external stakeholders.
Training and helping the engineering teams (as well as other disciplines) with regards to compliance and certification.
Helps define the QMS procedures and instructions when related to Compliance.
Can assist and guide 3rd party companies when a unit needs to be certified.
Helping and working with clients when related to compliance issues.
Ensuring adequate knowledge level is maintained in the field of expertise.
Is well-versed with (International) Codes & Standards, e.g. CE, IEC, ATEX, and remains up to date on developing Codes & Standards.
Mentor team members on the work and act as senior technical resource for guidance.
Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering and technology, or relevant work experience.
Has at least 5-10 years of experience as engineer, preferably in multiple disciplines and companies.
Is interested in pioneering in a rapidly developing industry and is self-driven, intrinsically motivated.
Quickly understands applicable standards, regulations and is able to apply these to company scope of work.
Must be capable of working independently, in a fast-paced environment, with minimal supervision.
Sound organizational skills for completing tasks as scheduled.
Strong communication skills both verbal and written for the purpose of explaining challenges and solutions internally.
Good interpersonal skills to successfully interface other engineering disciplines and customer
