Global Category Director, Logistics and Warehousing

The Global Category Director (GCD), Logistics and Warehousing provides Global procurement category leadership for the Logistics and Warehousing categories and is responsible for all associated expenditure and resources within the parameters of the role. Specifically, but not exhaustively, the GCD for Logistics and Warehousing has responsibility for all stakeholder and supplier engagement activities. The GCD for Logistics and Warehousing, owns the global Category Strategy for the parent Categories and all related Sub-Categories within Logistics and Warehousing, to leverage Smith + Nephew’s scale and position in the market. The GCD for Logistics and Warehousing embeds the Category Strategies across Logistics and Warehousing through effective management and engagement with the global Category Procurement community, senior business stakeholders and major suppliers. The GCD for Logistics and Warehousing will be based in Europe & reports directly to the Senior Director for Indirect Procurement.

What will you be doing?

Responsible for providing Logistics and Warehousing Category input into the Senior Director for Indirect Procurement and/or the Global Procurement Leadership Team in order to inform the functional objective setting process

Accountable for the delivery of the Logistics and Warehousing Category targets (including Cost, Risk & Quality)

Responsible for overseeing the collation of supplier, supply market and internal business data and information in order to inform the Logistics and Warehousing Category strategy.

Responsible for developing the Global Logistics and Warehousing Category Strategy, including relevant stakeholder approval

Responsible for the communication and distribution of the Logistics and Warehousing Category strategy to the relevant stakeholders

Accountable for identifying key supplier risks within the Logistics and Warehousing Category and agreeing mitigating activities with the relevant Sub-Category Leaders and business stakeholders

Accountable for ensuring that any escalated supplier performance risks and issues are resolved on a timely basis

Responsible for the development and execution of projects based on the Logistics and Warehousing Category strategy and accountable for business planning activities feeding into the Procurement Pipeline

Accountable for ensuring that the Category projects agreed to within the Logistics and Warehousing Global Category Strategy are executed in a timely basis in line with the targeted goals

Responsible for establishing overall the Logistics and Warehousing Category segmentation and identification of key supplier relationships across the Global Category

Accountable for establishing and implementing consistent KPIs for the Logistics and Warehousing Category

Responsible for driving the Smith + Nephew innovation agenda with strategic suppliers within the Logistics and Warehousing Category

Accountable for ensuring that all appropriate Operational Procurement activities and Processes are delivered in line with the Smith & Nephew Procurement Operating Model

Responsible for monitoring compliance and adherence to Smith + Nephew Procurement policies and procedures within the Logistics and Warehousing Category

Responsible for the development of Procurement capability within the Category Team and ensuring appropriate coaching and support is provided to team members

Responsible for the Performance Management of all Direct Reports

Responsible for establishing and managing succession planning across the Category Team and aligning these plans with the Procurement Leadership Team

What will you need to be successful?

Bachelor’s degree required at a minimum, in fields such as business administration, finance, law or a scientific or technical field. Strong preference for CIPS or similar professional qualification.

Director level experience in a Procurement environment

Demonstrable alignment of Logistics and Warehousing Category Strategy with key stakeholders and successful implementation of key Sub-Category initiatives (Cost, Risk, Quality)

Demonstrable achievement of the annual Logistics and Warehousing Category savings targets, increased spend under management (influence), support & delivery of the S&N innovation agenda. Demonstrable achievement of improved capability and performance from the resources allocated to the Logistics and Warehousing Category

Pro-active, Procurement Led supplier relationship management, critical Category risks identified, mitigated and managed through dynamic plans
