Lead Design Engineer GEHO

Our Venlo Technology Group (VTG for short) facility is continuously looking for ways to do better, more sustainable, more efficient in a highly technical environment. As a Lead Design Engineer, you are part of our R&D facility. You will be responsible for setting up and managing the technical design of GEHO product platform and will have a crucial role in the development of the GEHO product platform, taking the lead in making design decisions or proposals. As an internal consultant you will generate ideas for product development and innovations. Furthermore you will be the “go-to” person to consult in case of deviations from the design or changes in production methods etc. You will be responsible for product definition, research & development and support & guidance. You communicate mainly internally but also externally about the designs with regard to manufacturability, sustainability, cost efficiency and safety.

Responsibilities

Amongst others:

  • Develops design guidelines and records them in Design Manuals (Engineering-to-Order).
  • Creates design tools based on the design guidelines.
  • Standardizes product platform and creates basic designs of the product platform.
  • Construction and management of construction file for standard modules (Configure-to-Order).
  • Creates basic design for Develop-to-Order orders.
  • Takes care of the mechanical, pneumatic design in close consultation with stakeholders for Hydraulic systems, electrical engineering (hardware & software) and responsible drive engineer.
  • Generating ideas for product development and innovation and conducting technical feasibility studies.
  • Drawing up specifications, making concept/ basic designs.
  • Is in charge of risk analyses of specific product group and ensures that design meets all necessary safety requirements.
  • Leading the execution of product improvements of specific product group.
  • Search for and conduct discussions with suppliers about required products, quality or services.
  • Collecting, recording and transferring the acquired professional knowledge to employees within the organization and, if applicable, with external parties.
  • Is consulted for failure analyses and root cause analyses. Usually this is done in consultation with the Service Organization in case of problems in the field as part of 3rd line support.
  • Provides technical 3rd line consulting support to the internal organization or to customers if unique product knowledge is required.

    Education & qualifications

  • Completed university degree in mechanical engineering
  • At least 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience as a final responsible Lead Design Engineer in (heavy) mechanical engineering of a large and complex product platform 
  • Thorough and applied knowledge in design and analysis of machine elements, structural theory and strength calculations
  • Experience in working with 3D CAD systems and knowledge of NX is a strong advantage
  • Being able to provide technical leadership and functional guidance to people and teams. Often chairman role in technical consultations
  • Fluent knowledge of the English language (reading, writing and speaking) and knowledge of German language is an advantage
  • Experience with Finite Elements Method for strength calculations is an advantage
  • Programming experience is an advantage
  • Strong sense of responsibility, stress resistant, strong analytical skills, pro-active, solution-oriented, high quality awareness
  • Willingness to occasional international travel
