This includes Air Products owned plants and those designed and constructed for our customers.
To grow and sustain our operations business, we are seeking an experienced Lead Plant Process Engineer with a focus on the production and distribution of Hydrogen to expand the process engineering expertise within our European engineering team. Based at our Rotterdam office, this opportunity will suit a talented achiever looking to showcase their skills within a high performing team.
What you’ll be doing
Provide Technical Process leadership to a range of operating plants across the EMEA region with a focus on H2 production and distribution.
Give senior technical support to process engineers and plant operating teams to troubleshoot and resolve plant issues associated with safety, production and efficiency.
Support the planning and execution of major plant outages including scope development, approval of isolations, development of maintenance procedures and the onsite leadership of specialist activities such as catalyst loading to ensure turn arounds are completed safely.
Drive the resolution of plant process safety and retrofit actions within required timeframes
Uphold and champion a high standard of engineering practice and technical governance including the check and approval of process engineering deliverables and plant management of change.
Work with commercial teams, providing technical input for opportunities to support business growth and extend the operating life of existing assets.
Lead productivity initiatives and idea generation for H2 facilities including cost benefit analysis.
Work closely with the project organization to determine process deliverables including the associated hours estimates and schedules for process engineering.
Provide lead process support for executing process deliverables including PID change-notes, equipment specifications, control philosophies, shutdown cause and effects, Hazard Studies, plot layouts, piping reviews, commissioning documentation and operating procedures.
As a lead engineer work closely with and engage the various technical disciplines: Controls, electrical, machinery, piping, process safety to ensure accurate transfer of information between disciplines during scope definition, engineering design, commissioning and startup phases.
Provide onsite senior technical support for Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI), commissioning, startup and performance testing.
Provide technical supervision and coaching to junior process engineers to support their development and growth.
Act as a subject matter expert for H2 facilities, providing technical training to engineers and operating teams.
Optimise and develop work processes to ensure effective process support to plants and projects.
What we’re looking for
A high level of technical expertise ideally suited to someone with a chemical engineering or related degree with several years relevant technical experience.
Experience working in an operations environment with extensive onsite plant experience and a practical ‘hands-on’ approach.
Operating and engineering design experience in steam methane reforming.
Discipline to work to a schedule and communication to liaise effectively with other technical disciplines and operations personnel.
Capability to manage competing priorities with the ability to adapt.
Self-motivated with the drive to lead others.
The ability to work both unsupervised and as part of a technical team.
Availability to travel throughout the European region to support site/project activities.
