    Job Description

    Make your mark as a Lead Project Engineer for Boskalis Subsea Cables (BSC)! Your primary responsibility will be to lead the Project Engineering team and manage the complete engineering scope during the preparation, execution and close-out for one of our Subsea Cable Projects. You will take ownership of yourself and your team in an autonomous way by having control over the Engineering Budget, Planning, Risks, Contract Requirements and Deliverables. During the project preparation phase, you make sure any interface between internal Engineering Disciplines (Geo, Production, Marine, etc.), Operations, QHSE and external suppliers is covered. You act as technical conscience throughout the complete lifecycle for our technical challenging and complex projects. You will manage a team of 3 – 10 project engineers (depending on the project size).

    Your responsibilities as a Lead Project Engineer Subsea Cables:

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers, providing guidance, support, and mentorship throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Take the lead in planning and executing the engineering scope during project preparation in the office as well as the execution on location, ensuring adherence to Budget, Planning, Risks, Contract Requirements and Deliverables.
  • Prepare and guide project preparations, work methods and designs that meet requirements in collaboration with internal cross-functional teams.
  • During project execution, lead the engineering team from the site office with the possibility of doing rotations offshore.
  • Utilize your technical expertise to develop innovative solutions that meet client needs and mitigate risks to an as low as possible level.
  • Collaborate closely and act as main engineering point of contact for clients to understand their needs, address concerns or inquiries, provide technical advice, and ensure fulfilment of contract requirements.
  • Collaborate with clients, marine warranty surveyors, and authorities to demonstrate the feasibility and safety of the proposed solutions.
  • Monitor project progress and timely identification of deviations in time, engineering resource demand, quality or cost compared to engineering planning, requirements and budget.
  • Provide support and advice to Project Management and the Manager Engineering department during all phases of the project.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering team and department, evaluate the process, identifying areas for optimization and implement best practices to enhance project and people efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Your qualities

    You can make your mark as a Lead Project Engineer Subsea Cables if you have:

  • A Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Civil engineering, Marine engineering, Offshore Engineering or Mechanical engineering.
  • 6 - 10 years of relevant experience in an offshore (oil and gas and/or renewables) and/or maritime environment.
  • Thorough understanding of the underlying disciplines behind our work as subsea cable installation contractor (Geo, Marine and structural engineering).
  • Knowledge and experience of planning applications - such as MS project and/or Primavera - and basic knowledge of drafting applications - such as AutoCAD or BricsCAD.
  • Good communication skills and a good knowledge of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • You are motivated and eager to develop your skills in this role.
  • You show leadership, are a team player, pro-active and have a hands-on mentality.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of operational processes (offshore experience).
  • Experience in leading a team of 3 – 8 project engineers, including the contribution to performance assessments.

  • Extra information

  • Your team: Your daily work will be done as part of a project team, typically existing out of 3 - 10 project Engineers. You are also part of the total BSC engineering department of roughly 60+ FTE.
  • Where you will work: Offshore and office based in Papendrecht, Netherlands.
  • Full/part-time job: The position of Lead Project Engineer requires an availability of 40 hours a week during project preparation (a minimum of 3x days office based), and 12 hrs/day – 7 days/week during project execution when you go offshore.
