LyondellBasell’s Digital Advanced Analytics organization provides value focused and scalable digital, data-driven, and advanced analytics solutions across LyondellBasell’s enterprise. Through working closely with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and IT, the Machine Learning (ML) Engineer will have the opportunity to provide significant tangible business value through developing and deploying scalable Machine Learning pipelines and capabilities on high value problems. This requires a team of innovative, energetic, productive, software development minded, and humble individuals who demonstrate LyondellBasell’s core values in the application of Machine Learning pipelines and workflows on each project. At LyondellBasell, we work a flexible hybrid schedule, which includes remote work-from-home days and in-person team collaboration days.
Roles & Responsibilities
Place emphasis on delivering value through training and operationalizing large-scale Machine Learning (ML) models, through excellent problem solving, development, and implementation of scalable solutions;
Work collaboratively with Data Scientists to establish best practices for prototyping, tuning, training, versioning, acceptance/promotion, and continuous integration of ML models, and capturing ML model metrics;
Work with data engineers and dev ops to develop an approach for testing the code of our ML models, and develop specific tests for ML model code;
Work on determining the right infrastructure to use for large-scale distributed model tuning and training;
Create automated and reproducible model workflows/pipelines, continuously evaluate, and maintain the code base with the latest package and framework developments and standards within the ML ecosystem, including Tensorflow, PyTorch, Microsoft Azure ML, etc;
Work across our portfolio of projects to ensure that ML models are updated periodically, tests for ML models are refreshed, training data is refreshed, models are re-tuned, re-trained, and appropriately versioned, and the model performance is validated;
When time permits, experiment with ML models to try to improve performance.
This is who you are
PhD preferred;
4+ years professional hands on software development experience with a PhD, or 6+ years’ experience with an MS degree;
Strong programming and scripting skills in other languages, such as C#, C++, Java, JavaScript, SQL, Julia, or Scala;
Experience with VS Code or Jupyter Notebooks;
Experienced working with Data Scientists on architecting and delivering scalable, end to end advanced analytics solutions;
Knowledge of ML techniques & algorithms, such as ANNs, SVM, GBM, Decision Forests, Clustering algorithms;
Experience with GPU technology, NVIDIA data science development stacks, and CUDA programming.
This what you bring
MS (PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field;
2+ years professional hands on software development experience with a PhD, or 4+ years’ experience with an MS degree;
Demonstrated ability to drive a project, and work both independently and in a team;
High level of enthusiasm and a love of data, software development, and ML engineering;
Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills, including strong data, technical, and mathematical knowledge and skills;
Strong Python OOP programming skills;
Experience working with large structured and/or unstructured data and technologies;
Experience with modern ML and Deep Learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Keras;
Experience with modern ML and Data Science libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-Learn, NLTK, Seaborn, Dplyr;
Specialty skills in large scale computing, cluster computing, and/or cloud computing (Azure preferably;
Experience with Linux, Unix, Git, and software development testing frameworks.
