Position Summary
Within Plug NL, the mechanical engineer is responsible for the design, specification, and optimization of all items related to piping, mechanical, structural, static and rotating equipment. This position also provides expertise related to conceptual studies, cost and planning studies, layouts, design calculations, specification development and fabrication and construction documents. In addition, the mechanical engineer must be a skilled collaborator who can engage cross-functionally with team members in our engineering office in Pune, India, where majority of detailed engineering is performed. Furthermore, interdisciplinary collaboration with process, electrical and instrumentation and control engineers is required during the complete lifecycle of a product.
As mechanical engineer at Plug you work in a very dynamic environment: the hydrogen business is still developing and the electrolyzers that Plug delivers are undergoing continuous improvements. On stand-alone electrolyzers for Plug&Play use or modular designs to delivery green hydrogen at the gigawatt scale for the decarbonization of
steelmaking or fertilizer production, Plug is at the forefront of development.
As all systems are undergoing further improvements and we ready ourselves for new series of systems suitable for even larger-scale solutions, Plug is looking for experienced Mechanical Engineers to drive these developments.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Create engineering documentation for conceptual and cost studies. Define specifications and requirements.
Develop mechanical design for complete system for the project, being either a plug and play Plug electrolyzer system, or a complete plant (where required in consultation with third party engineering consultant).
Create manufacturing and service procedures as necessary to support the assembly, installation, and continuous operation of electrolyzer products.
Give guidance to and checking of all mechanical related engineering activities and documentation related to hydrogen projects.
Be involved in development and continuous improvement in work processes, standards, specifications, guidelines, and engineering tools.
Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of all Plug Power products' designs and functionality to enable acting as a Subject Matter Expert for hydrogen generation systems.
Provide technical guidance to other team members. Lead the review and approval of other team members’ work.
Interface with customers, suppliers, and business partners for new and existing products.
Always represent Plug Power in a professional manner and in all interactions.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Some travel may be required.
Education and Experience
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in civil or mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of design experience in industrial, power, oil & gas, manufacturing, pharmaceutical or food & beverage industry.
Experience preparing, reviewing, and approving CSA related engineering activities and documentation.
Working knowledge of European and international design codes.
Ability to travel as needed, domestic or internationally, to customer offices and site locations.
Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, AutoCAD.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail.
Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively.
