Sr. Electrical Engineer

Position Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer is a key member of the Engineering team and requires close interaction with the cross-discipline engineering, delivery, manufacturing, construction, and new product introduction teams. In this position the individual is responsible for the specification, design, integration, testing and continual support of high voltage & low voltage electrical equipment for the power distribution or process control of PEM electrolysis-based hydrogen generation systems. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to handle multiple assignments and willing to learn and adapt in a fast-paced product engineering organization.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

·Develops electrical system requirements, electrical schematics, single line drawings, and field wiring diagrams;

·Responsible for the technical design, including cost efficiency and conformity to customer specifications, as per agreed schedule.

·Responsible for clear and correct engineering documentation.

·Responsible for handling technical communication with external engineering parties and where applicable with clients.

·Responsible for the technical review of supplier quotations.

·Takes ownership of design and additional department requirements.

·Early identification to department head of areas of concern with necessary corrective action identified.

·Ensuring an adequate knowledge level is maintained in the field of expertise.

·Is well-versed with (International) Codes & Standards, e.g. CE, IEC, ATEX, EMC and ensures that designs complies with applicable electrical codes & standards/legislation;

·Is able to specify equipment such as: 

oElectrical substations; 

oAC/DC Power Converters, Medium Voltage Transformers and Switchgear, Low Voltage Distribution systems;

oMotors and heaters

·Developing knowledge and skills to be able to address current and future project and market demands.

·Responsible for informing Engineering Manager regarding possible (technical) problems, risks and additional work. Escalating issues to the appropriate management level.

·Is able to delegate work to electrical engineers in Plug Netherlands or Plug India.

·Mentor team members on design work and act as senior technical resource for guidance.

·Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions; support the philosophy of the organization to provide high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfaction.

Education and Experience

·Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

·Has at least 5 years of experience as an electrical engineer, preferably in the renewable energy sector. 

·Is interested in pioneering in a rapidly developing industry and is self-driven, intrinsically motivated and committed to enable the clean energy transition.

·Working knowledge of high voltage equipment such as transformers, rectifiers, power supplies, and switchgear required.

·Experience with EU directives (CE, ATEX, EMC, LV) preferred.

·Experience with hazardous area codes & standards (CE, IEC, ATEX, EMC etc.) preferred.

·Experience reading Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s) preferred.

·Must be capable of working independently, in a fast-paced environment, with minimal supervision.

·Sound organizational skills for completing tasks as scheduled.

·Strong communication skills both verbal and written for the purpose of explaining challenges and solutions internally.

·Good interpersonal skills to successfully interface other engineering disciplines and customer
