Position Summary
The Senior Instrumentation & Control Engineer is a key member of the Engineering team and requires close interaction with the cross-discipline engineering, delivery, manufacturing, construction, and new product introduction teams. In this position the individual is responsible for the specification, design, integration, testing and continual support of Field instrumentation, Process Control & Safety Systems, Integrated Control & Safety systems, Package Control Systems and Fire & Gas Systems during the FEED and subsequent Basic and Detailed phases of PEM electrolysis-based hydrogen generation systems. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to handle multiple assignments and willing to learn and adapt in a fast-paced product engineering organization.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
·Responsible for the Field instrumentation, Process Control & Safety Systems, Integrated Control & Safety systems, Package Control Systems and Fire & Gas Systems.
·Ensure that interfaces with other disciplines (mainly electrical, piping and process) are consistent and aligned.
·Providing (technical) expertise during different project phases
·Responsible for the technical design, including cost efficiency and conformity to customer specifications, as per agreed schedule.
·Responsible for handling technical communication with external engineering parties and where applicable with clients.
·Ensuring adequate knowledge level is maintained in the field of expertise.
·Developing knowledge and skills together with other I&C engineers to be able to address current and future project needs.
·Provide support during the FEED and basic design phase and help estimating costs of the project (hours, equipment and construction budgets).
·Developing scope, basis of design and control system architectures.
·Setting up technical engineering packages required for procurement of instrumentation and control packages.
·Specify process control equipment including control valves, flow measurement devices, analysers, process instrumentation, etc.
·Assist in developing a project specific system design with all associated documentation (philosophies, layouts, specifications, datasheets, block diagrams, Cause & Effect diagrams, etc..).
·Review documents prepared by sub-contractors to ensure quality and consistency.
·Participate in technical review meetings (P&ID / HAZOP / SIL / LOPA / 3D Model / etc.)
·Identify issues (problems, value improvement opportunities) and help clarify areas of complexity during all phases of the engineering design work.
·Making and maintaining scope overview between Plug offices and executing/guiding I&C engineering activities within a multidisciplinary team.
·Is well-versed with (International) Codes & Standards, e.g. CE, IEC, ATEX, and ensures that designs complies with applicable electrical codes & standards/legislation;
·Responsible for informing Engineering Manager regarding possible (technical) problems, risks and additional work. Escalating issues to the appropriate management level.
·Is able to delegate work to I&C engineers in Plug Netherlands or Plug India.
·Mentor team members on design work and act as senior technical resource for guidance.
·Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions.
Education and Experience
·Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering and technology, or relevant work experience.
·Has at least 5 years of experience as an Instrumentation & Control engineer, preferably in the renewable energy sector.
·Is interested in pioneering in a rapidly developing industry and is self-driven, intrinsically motivated and committed to enable the clean energy transition.
·Experience with Control System Hardware and Specification – I/O modules, ESD (SIS), PCS, package control systems, Fire & Gas systems (FGS), Architecture Design, etc…
·Experience with EU directives (CE, ATEX) preferred.
·Experience with hazardous area codes & standards (CE, IEC, ATEX, etc.) preferred.
·Must be capable of working independently, in a fast-paced environment, with minimal supervision.
·Sound organizational skills for completing tasks as scheduled.
·Strong communication skills both verbal and written for the purpose of explaining challenges and solutions internally.
·Good interpersonal skills to successfully interface other engineering disciplines and customer
