Test Engineer for Power System (standardization and cyber security)

We are searching for a Test Engineer for Power System standardization and cyber security to join our Energy Systems team in Arnhem or Dresden.

In energy OT environments, components and devices from various suppliers must communicate and operate seamlessly. Communication standards are vital for open infrastructures and device compatibility. Energy companies demand conformance testing before purchasing products to detect early-stage interpretation problems and bugs in the software. DNV's experience shows over 90% of devices fail initial tests. Certified products are proven to minimize communication problems when components and devices enter service.

You can expect to:

  • Develop new applications or features of DNV tools for the power system industry. 
  • Work with the following protocols: CIM (Common Information Model), IEC 61850, DLMS, IEC60807-5-104/101, IEC 62351 and other smart grid and distribution automation protocols).
  • Work with our test procedures to test innovative products and prototypes. 
  • Gather market insights from subject matter experts and standardization commissions.
  • Contribute to the software quality in our team.
  • Maintain our testing tools by fixing bugs and plan improvements.
  • In Arnhem, we operate the world’s first accredited IEC 61850 level A test lab. Within DNV, we are the center of excellence on data communication protocols. Our lab is recognized as a leading resource for the industry. Leading the standardization group, involved with power system communication standards, from cyber security to network modelling.

    We welcome candidates with different educational backgrounds, such as a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Power system or related technical fields, or practical experience on a similar level. In addition, we encourage applicants who have:

  • Experience in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated technical influence in their role, particularly in designing highly scalable distributed system designs.
  • A systematic problem-solving approach, along with effective verbal and written communication skills, a strong sense of ownership, and motivation.
  • Proficiency in English language skills, both verbal and written, is essential.
  • Willing and able to travel internationally on an incidental basis.
  • Strong collaborative skills while also demonstrating the ability to work independently.
  • A commitment to taking responsibility for tasks and competencies, ensuring uncompromising quality.
  • Familiarity with current IEC standards, communication protocols, or cyber security is considered an advantage.
