Backend Developer (PHP, Laravel) EdTech
Studocu was founded on the principle that equal access to study notes reduces inequality between students. Today, we make it easy for more than 45+ million students to share notes every month and use cutting-edge AI learning tools (like Quizzes, AI Chat, and Ask-AI) to help them ace their study goals. The product was a rocket ship from day one and has shown strong product-market fit on every continent with enviable YoY growth, making us a key player in the exploding EdTech space.
Do you want to work on a platform that makes study materials accessible for 45+ million students? We are expanding our 10 SCRUM teams (70+ back-end, full-stack, and front-end developers) and are looking for a talented new colleague who is a wizard with PHP and has experience with modern Laravel. You will be working with our designers and front-end developers to enable our users all over the world and let them have the best possible experience on our platform. We are keen to join hands with someone whose hunger for technology is only matched by a motivation to solve difficult problems fast, efficiently, and with scalability in mind.
We are currently hiring for different tech teams at Studocu who own parts of our application like:
- Monetisation - which increases revenue by growing our subscriber base and runs monetisation experiments to keep improving our model and growth loop’s dynamics. It's also responsible for processing payments from 194 countries using 28 payment methods. Which we believe is quite cool.
- Study Space - which mission is to build a platform, leveraging AI, where students can prepare for their exams more efficiently with everything they need in just one place so that they prefer to study within Studocu instead of suing multiple different apps.
- ...and others!
What you'll be doing here:
- Shipping new functionalities every week for a continuously changing product in one of our teams.
- Bringing a deep knowledge of design, analysis, development, and testing while exceeding industry standards in terms of high-quality code and security.
- Using new techniques such as organising Laravel Applications with Actions.
- Working with a Product Manager and an Engineering Manager to refine high-level stories before they are further presented to your team.
- Participating in code reviews and providing feedback to other developers to ensure code quality.

Why you'll love it here:
- Global impact. Our team engages with users from 194 countries. You will have the opportunity to work on projects that reach people all over the world.
- New tech. We are using the latest technologies (currently PHP 8.1, Laravel 9 and migrating to 10) and updating the older ones whenever possible.
- Flexible setup. Your own workspace including the hardware of your choosing (Mac or Linux). We work in a hybrid mode where we want to see everybody at least twice a week in the office.
- Learning and Development. You will be constantly learning and have access to your own annual L&D budget for courses and/or certifications. Plus you can join our free Dutch classes!
- Holidays. 24 holidays based on 40 hours per week. We also provide a public transport card and contribute to your pension scheme.
- Multinational team. Our company has 35+ nationalities onboard, which brings unique perspectives and makes for a diverse working environment.
- Beautiful Office. An awesome office in the centre of Amsterdam with a huge garden, right next to the canals. Including free healthy lunch prepared by our own chef and unhealthy snacks every day.
This recruitment process:

- Coding assignment to check your coding skills and practices.
- Final technical interview that will be based on your solution of the coding assignment.
We are looking for you when you are keen to work with PHP8.1 and know what's good in the latest version of Laravel 9. To be successful in this role, this is the kind of profile we have in mind:
-
A PHP expert with Laravel experience. We are thinking of 3 to 5 years of working experience.

Ability to write high-performance, reusable and fully tested code.
