The role
As an ESG intern at Damen Financial Services, you will play a crucial role in advancing our sustainability efforts by translating ESG requirements into actionable strategies for our vessels. You will be at the forefront of exploring innovative technologies and methodologies to track and improve our environmental and social performance. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of sustainable practices within the maritime sector.
You’ll work closely with our ESG experts and other stakeholders like Damen Digital Solutions and the product groups to address sustainability issues, promote responsible practices, and drive positive impact. This internship provides a unique chance to learn, collaborate with different departments within Damen, and make a difference.
Key accountabilities
How do we translate ESG requirements to our vessels and how can we show our progress toward ESG targets in a dashboard? You will:
Assist in establishing baseline emissions data for vessels, identifying key metrics for tracking environmental impact.
Explore innovative ways, such as blockchain technology and gamification, to track and achieve sustainability goals.
Support in implementing an effective system for tracking and reporting on ESG progress, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Evaluate factors such as carbon emissions, water usage, diversity and inclusion, and ethical practices for Damen vessels, contributing to meaningful sustainability assessments.
Assist in gathering technical information that supports ESG narratives of Damen vessels, facilitating informed decision-making towards our stakeholders.
Collaborate with different stakeholders to deliver a mock-up of an ESG dashboard, providing insights into our progress towards sustainability targets.
Skills & experience
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Environmental Science, Industrial Ecology, Sustainability, Business Administration, Data Science, Industrial Design Engineering, or related field.
Strong analytical skills with a passion for sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Familiarity with ESG principles and frameworks, with a desire to apply them in a maritime context.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, capable of collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
Understanding of or experience in emission quantification, mechanical systems and sustainability reporting is a plus.
