We at ING are looking for an Android Engineering Manager (IT Chapter Lead) for the ING Mobile Banking App team in Amsterdam, Netherlands
A passionate and inspiring Android IT Team lead, Engineering Manager (within ING we use the title Chapter Lead), with a solid software development background on the Android platform and hands on mentality.
ING Bank’s Mobile App department is a fast environment, with major exposure to other ING markets. The technology which our mobile app is based on is shared with many other ING mobile apps and with our teams we make design, build and run the mobile flows which are used by millions of mobile app users in multiple countries where ING bank has its presence.
The Team
The teams are developing real time banking features right in the mobile app of ING Bank for The Netherlands, Belgium and other countries with ING franchises. The stage for your work couldn’t be bigger than this!
The native Android modules which together constitute the ING mobile app are the technical backbone for end to end digital flows that empower our customers in the ING Mobile banking app every day.
Role & Responsibilities
You will fulfil an important IT role as senior software engineer, in a small, dynamic DevOps team. 50% of your time you will develop and test digital flows on our mobile banking apps used by millions of Dutch and international customers.
For the other 50% of your working week, you will be responsible for coaching, mentoring and motivating IT experts in your ‘Android’ chapter, which will consist of 8 till 12 android software engineers on average. The mobile app family consists of +-20 teams, divided over technical leadership of 8 engineering managers (3 ios, 3 android, 2 backend).
You are an inspiring technical lead within your Android chapter and/or squads, by stimulating innovation, coaching on career development of your chapter members, initiate knowledge sharing activities or improvements within the Mobile app department of ING.
How to succeed
Proven track record and proficiency in Android OS development (6 + years): On the front-end side, we are into Kotlin for Android or Swift for iOS. Our backend stack sounds like Kotlin, Java, Spring Boot, Maven, Azure DevOps, Kafka, Cassandra, Oracle.
Lead development experience
Understanding of (test) automation (with for example Cucumber), continuous delivery, deployment tools and pipelines. We work with Azure DevOps, Helm, Kubernetes on OpenShift, Docker (Compose).
Healthy interest in software architecture and patterns, and ability to connect with software architects to translate architecture to software design.
An itch and self-motivation for solving technical and functional challenges.
Great analytical skills and conceptual / architectural understanding, ability to quickly understand new technical concepts that are outside of your comfort zone.
Strong interest and vision in recent trends in software development and technology in general.
We expect the ability to transfer knowledge back to the ING Bank by holding presentations, workshops, writing documentation and most important: setting new standards for the ways we do Android development.
Strong social and communication skills. Being a sparring partner for our business colleagues.
Experience with working in multidisciplinary teams and iterative way of working is a pre.
