IT Chapter Lead - Microfocus platform

The Tribe Generics, also known as Tribe NRC-FIAT plays a crucial role in the payments of current business accounts, 2nd line approval flow-related payments, and handling structures of accounts. The applications are all ex-mainframe applications and run on a rehosted platform of MicroFocus on Windows. The core functionality is used for cash management and calculating interest and fees for business current accounts and overdrafts.

One of the strategic pillars is to decommission all old ex-mainframe applications and move the functionality to the target landscape. The biggest challenge we face is securing the continuity and safeguarding the (functional) knowledge. Within the next 5 years, 10 engineers are expected to retire resulting in a loss of valuable knowledge. You play a key role in contributing to the migration to the target landscape, while ensuring the continuity of the current landscape. Key strengths are people management, vendor management and stakeholder management.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • As Chapter Lead you have experience with outsourcing projects like SSI partners, ING Hub, or Nearshore partners to cope and handle the continuity of running the bank. You want to gradually outsource work to an external vendor while managing the process as a key player between ING and the vendor. Your ability to create a strategic plan is essential for successful execution, and you can confidently lead your team towards success.
  • You lead and inspire approximately 10 engineers. You’ll enable your engineers to grow their mastery. You like to transfer your expertise to colleagues in the chapter and feel satisfaction from coaching (both professionally and personally) Chapter members. You stimulate your Chapter members towards continuous improvements of their skills. You speak up and challenge the status quo.
  • You have a positive can-do mindset and are a role model in ING’s Orange Behaviour and lead by example.
  • Besides having a passion for IT, you are a strong people manager. You are willing to collaborate closely with the other Chapter Lead to continuously improve the way of working.
  • You have experience working in an Agile environment and adopting Agile practices. Your skills will help them achieve their goals and deliver high-quality results. You seek out opportunities to boost efficiency and output while expanding functional knowledge.
  • You have basic knowledge of the risk journeys and other risk controls. As Chapter Lead, you can escalate (risk) impediments to senior management and other relevant stakeholders to support the teams.
  • At some point, the ex-mainframe applications are migrated to the Target and the applications can be decommissioned. Your top priority is to ensure that the remaining engineers are placed in the target environment. Eventually, the department will become obsolete. As a qualified and high-performing Chapter Lead, we expect that you will be able to move you to another department.
