IT Internship: CI/CD automation development & standardization

Introduction

The ASML IT R&D Hardware Engineering department supports the ASML R&D teams that are working on the development of current and future machine components which are part of the Lithography, Metrology and other tools that ASML sells to the leading chipmakers in the world. These machines are extremely complex and require nanometer precision to properly function. Our IT teams support this development by providing a set of Engineering Simulation IT services including application support, HPC, Virtual Workplaces and a set of monitoring, automation and data analytics &reporting services. This is a set of fast evolving, leading edge technology services where we use innovative technologies to create and support these IT services. We work according to Agile principles and have also adopted the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). Our R&D colleagues are very demanding on what they need when to support the fast paced development cycles that are planned for our current and new machines.

Background information

Are you curious how automation helps create contribute to the success of a large enterprise and high-tech company? Our DevOps team provides services that support the R&D Simulation Engineers in their daily work, which includes application support on products like Ansys, MATLAB, StarCCM, Comsol. We use Splunk and PowerBI to correlate and visualize insights from data created by our licensing platform, the usage of IT services and the use of applications. The team has created a set of automations to help in the creation, support and usage of our services where we’re looking for further ways to automate our customers and our workflows, including automated UI and code testing.

During your internship with us, your primary goal will be to help create an up-to-date inventory and assessment of our current CI/CD pipelines including their use cases and assessment of access management, security & compliance. You will be able/asked to modify/update pipelines with guidance from our automation engineer. You will help in migrating where needed to different instance of a platform or a different platform. You will be able/asked to cooperate on the creation of new pipelines, including documentation. We are looking for a way to make the creation of pipelines more self-service so that both our team members and our customers can create copies of (templated) pipelines.
