What’s the role?

The Materials & Corrosion Engineer works within the MMI Chapter (Mechanical, Materials and Integrity), providing expertise in the areas of material selection, welding, failure analysis, corrosion management, corrosion monitoring, cathodic protection, together with the provision of timely advice on matters of specification, design, selection, procurement, application, and maintenance.  The scope is broad covering downhole, facilities and pipelines.

Key accountabilities of work areas include:

  • Lead and drive lean degradation & corrosion management processes
  • Identify credible degradation mechanisms with the associated degradation rates
  • Evaluate asset condition, inspection data and information to provide timely solutions to conditions threatening integrity, reliability, or availability
  • Define and implement material Integrity Operating Windows for the Installations
  • Knowledge in material selection for well completion design
  • Provide materials and corrosion engineering support to multi-discipline studies & projects
  • Act as an Authority on material selection and corrosion assessment

The environment offers a particular challenge for the incumbent to work both independently and as a member of multidisciplinary teams to contribute to the business. The environment demands considerable customer focus and an open mindset. The successful applicant will also be confident enough to make informed judgments in the full knowledge in a dynamic and ever-changing context.

The Materials & Corrosion Engineer needs a strong proactive and result driven attitude to ensure expectations are adequately managed. 

Note: This role requires a commitment of at least 1-2 days per week reporting either at the Assen office or other locations.

What we need from you

Experience:

  • Experience in corrosion and materials engineering in an oil and gas environment
  • Experience in risk-based pressure equipment management processes, showing broad interest beyond the primary materials and corrosion discipline to pivot through the interfaces enabling agile decision making

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (min) in Metallurgy, Material Science, Chemical engineering, or related discipline
  • Recognized as competent in Materials or Corrosion Engineering
  • It is envisioned that the candidate will be able to demonstrate practical application of expertise complemented by a sound education in metallurgy (or related subject) with a strong bias and in-depth knowledge of corrosion & degradation
  • Equally important will be a share idea and knowledge & contribute with fresh perspectives
  • The applicant should be an enthusiastic self-starter who can demonstrate a record of achievement, good interpersonal and communication skills
