Job Description Network Engineer CNS
As a Network Engineer CNS you are part of a team that support and develop Tier1 ISP network across multiple platforms (Juniper, Cisco and Nokia) and 13 countries. Your main goal is to ensure stability of multi-terabit IP/MPLS core. You have enthusiastic approach to understanding key technical areas. You want to grow and develop yourself professionally.
 
Purpose statement
A Network engineer within Central Network Support (CNS) Team is defined by his ability to deal with complex network issues across multiple platform (Juniper, Cisco and Alcatel) and his enthusiastic approach to understanding the key technical areas for which he is responsible and keep the network stable.
The CNS team is the Liberty Global Advanced support team dealing with Corporate IP/MPLS Network and escalations from different LG affiliates.

Main Responsibilities
1. Maintain and operate IP Networks
o troubleshoot issues in a large scale IP networks like Aorta/NA4 running routing protocols like OSPF, ISIS, BGP and MPLS applications like L2VPN, L3VPN, 6PE
o inform and counsel superiors in a way that they can manage any major technical escalations related to IP networks in an appropriate way, and plan and decide in due time about any appropriate operational improvement measures that need to be taken
o work within a team of engineers from different departments and vendors
o support his work with consistent and detailed documentation to a high quality
o work on trouble tickets, contributing high quality and useful information, picking up tickets properly and promptly, ensuring that updates are made with in SLAs
o Change management tasks like creation and approval of changes are also part of the responsibilities of a Network Engineer. Correlating and coordinating changes from different vendors and departments, making sure changes do not overlap and impact one another before approval/rejection, and ensuring management/vendors/departments are informed
o Work with the NMC to ensure that the appropriate alarms are generated from the networking equipment, with the correct severity and meta information
o Work with the NMC to ensure that they prioritize and escalate issues/incidents when needed promptly and clearly
o Liaise with vendors for incident and problem management
o Work on shifts
o Certify Junos, IOS and IOS-XR before deployment
o Maintain and upgrade the Corporate International IP/MPLS network (Aorta)
o update, manage and use effectively the NMS and capacity planning tools such as Spectrum, Cacti, Observer, Rancid, ACS, Splunk, Nagios, Junos Space
o capable to use effectively Arbor Peakflow and Arbor Pravail
o found Linux and scripting knowledge

2. Implementation support
o IP network projects implementation
o BGP Peering implementations

3. General
o Tier-3 support
o Provide guidance to tier-1 and tier-2 support engineers
o Provide support to LG affiliate Tier-1 and Tier-2 support engineers
o Provide leadership on incident resolution and ensure management is communicated clearly and transparently.
o Update incidents tickets promptly with detailed information.
o Ensure data analysis is done rigorously and saved to ticket logs.
o Ensure relevant processes are followed (Problem resolution, Change control and others)
o Follow the change and Incident Management process

Knowledge, Skills & Experience: 
o Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science/Electrical Engineering
o Proven experience in telecoms and/or ISP
o JNCIE or CCIE certified and proven work experience 
o Experience with network automation using Ansible, Python network frameworks
o Unix/Linux OS experience, and PHP/Perl/Python
o Experience in the telecom industry, with systems support, design or implementation related roles
o Extensive knowledge of IP and networking protocols and basic scripting/programming skills
o Used to work with the Microsoft Windows and Office Suite
o Fluent in spoken and written English
o Good interpersonal skills, able communicator
o Team player
o Experience in multinational and multicultural environment

Key Measures: 
o Availability of network and connectivity, can be measured by number of incidents arising from unavailability of network connectivity.
o Performance, resiliency and stability of the network
o Incident, trouble and problem ticket resolution within agreed SLAs
o Quality of handled incidents and changes
o Timely implement projects
