We are have a new opportunity for a System Engineer focused on Optical Satellite Communications. As a Systems Engineer, you will join a team focused on the forefront of technology for innovative system design and have hands on experience in development of terrestrial links and feeder-link to satellite. This also includes knowledge of Free-space laser communications systems, laser com analysis and concepts and qualification component tests. The day-to-day The Role: Hand on experience with Free-space laser communications systems engineering type trades and analysis. System design and hardware development of ultra-high-rate satellite payloads, terrestrial links and feeder-link to satellite. New lasercom concepts proposal preparation. Involvement with both government and commercial projects. Interaction with government and commercial customers. Support transceiver assembly integration and test. Support qualification tests component, assembly, and system level. What you'll need Must Qualifications MS degree level or PhD Have at least 7-10 years working experience matching the expectations of the role Deep knowledge of free space laser communication systems, payload and terrestrial feeder links and optical systems. Experience of working on government and commercial domains. What will help you on the job Preferred Qualifications Experience with systems engineering of free-space laser communication systems. Experience with the control of optical systems for precision beam-pointing Demonstrated experience with successful design and development of optical and laser-communication systems for terrestrial or satellite plications. Experience with satellite optical payloads Experience with flight qualification of optical systems Experience with fiberoptic systems and components Development of innovative and creative solutions to complex and challenges tasks Fundamental understanding of optical and communication systems from specifications and first principles Valid work permit to live and work Amsterdam, Netherlands Availability to travel to the US and across Europe to follow up with the other team members, contractors and to attend conferences. ________ #LI-EMEA At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience.
