The role

For this Interim position, Damen Naval is looking for a Yard & Transport Engineer (Interim) who can start on a temporary basis on a short term, for a duration up to 2 years.

As the Yard & Transport Engineer (Interim) at Damen Naval, you will leverage your specialist knowledge and expertise related to heavy lifts and transportation, to guide and assist in shipbuilding , land- and sea transportation and special maneuvering actions.
On a daily basis, you will guide these transport and replacement operations from the initial preparation, including hoisting plans, to the actual lifting, relocating and (re)positioning. You will also review and approve of all the related project documentation.

Key accountabilities

As the Yard & Transport Engineer (Interim) your key responsibilities will include:

  • Creating and maintaining the overviews and layouts of production facilities to determine the optimum construction site and building strategy.
  • Advising about the berth for ships at quays, pontoons and in the docks for the purpose of launching, outfitting and guarantees.
  • Being responsible for hoisting and turning sections, blocks and rings and making lifting plans and lifting drawings.
  • Delivering the calculations, drawings, and instructions for special (Yard) transports and loadouts.
  • Liaising with the client, subcontractors, transport companies, procurement, and the production team about the envisaged transport (system).
  • Completing the risk assessment (‘RI&E’) regarding special transport or special activities with an increased risk.
  • Preparing planning for the project (procedures/analysis) together with the Lead Engineer and / or Unit Head including presenting to the project team.
  • Contributing to continuous evaluation and/or improvement of the department’s processes.
  • Ensuring the development, transfer, and retention of knowledge within the department.
  • Understanding and following all HSSEQ policies and procedures.
  • Skills & experience

    As the Yard & Transport Engineer (Interim), you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

  • 4+ years of experience with heavy lift engineering and operations
  • Solid experience with delivering realistic planning of work sequencing, preferably in the shipbuilding or maritime sector.
  • Experience in lifting from vessels, vessel load outs and in transportations.
  • Vocational or Bachelor's degree in a technical study, preferably related to maritime or shipbuilding.
  • Good command of the English, and preferably also Dutch language (written & verbal).
  • Excellent references antecedents as a pre-employment security screening is standard part of the recruitment procedure.
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required and candidates with NL/EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
