About the Role

DP World are currently recruiting a Modern Slavery and Human Rights Director, this is an exciting new role within our Sustainability division reporting into our VP Sustainability for Europe. Not only do we have ambitious goals on Women and Education as part of the Our World, Our Future strategy, but we must also deliver on our commitments to each market we operate in. 

The development of legislation in Europe means we need to focus more on human rights in our supply chain, and this role will cover this and other social sustainability topics. This role will ensure we are compliant with European legislation, particularly on CSDDD, and also meeting national requirements such as UK Modern Slavery act and German SCA.

NOTE : this is a hybrid opportunity that can be based in either the UK, Netherlands or Germany. The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and German, this is not essential but highly desirable. There will be a requirement to travel dictated by business need. 

How you will contribute

  • Be a European leader and SME on modern slavery and human rights in the European region, and act a as key advisor for our global leaders.
  • Lead on the delivery of our Group and European region Human Rights and modern slavery goals, as part of DP World’s Our World, Our Future strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with the German supply chain act and equivalent European legislative requirements, such as the UK Modern Slavery Act. 
  • Liaise with governmental stakeholders, particularly UK Government officials and the German authority for SCA (German Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control).
  • Work in partnership with colleagues in the operations and procurement teams to develop and integrate human rights into our business at all levels, especially through our suppliers and supply chain.
  • Lead on external reporting and disclosure for human rights and social sustainability and contribute to CSRD and ISSB reporting requirements. 
  • Prepare DP World for the implementation of CSDDD and other EU and non-EU regulatory requirements which impact our region. 
  • Develop appropriate, relevant training and tools for the job for suppliers and colleagues. 
  • Identify, develop, and manage engagement with relevant external stakeholders, working collaboratively on issues to enable greater progress. 
  • Continuously inform and improve our strategy and business understanding of Human Rights and social sustainability by conducting horizon scanning on trends, regulation and policy, collect insights from other companies, SMEs & government and staying up to date with latest developments. 
  • What you will bring

  • Significant experience in Human Rights, preferably within logistics, shipping, and ports & terminals sectors.
  • Experience in the management of ethical and social risks in supply chains, including modern slavery.
  • Excellent business partnering relationship skills, facilitating prioritization, action, and accountability within the teams.
  • Knowledge of relevant networks and stakeholders in the field of human rights and social sustainability
  • Experienced at managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders, including budgets.
  • Familiar with risk assessment and management, prioritizing activities in an environment of competing priorities
  • Capable of training, coaching, and providing on-going support to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience at managing communication and reporting –on sustainability topics - including planning, supporting delivery, and maintaining content where appropriate.
